Dalai Lama criticises China around its Nobel opposition

The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has criticised the Chinese language federal government for its opposition to the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to jailed Chinese language dissident Liu Xiaobo.

He explained the Chinese language federal government did "not appreciate diverse opinions". Developing an open society was "the only strategy to conserve all individuals of China", he informed Japanese media.

Meanwhile, Mr Liu's wife has apparently been positioned below house arrest after he dedicated the award to the "martyrs" of Tiananmen Square in 1989.

Mr Liu was a crucial figure from the protests. He was also concerned in drafting Charter 08 two years ago - a document which termed for multi-party democracy and respect for human rights in China.

In 2009 he was jailed for 11 years for "inciting subversion".

China explained the choice to honour Mr Liu was an "obscenity".

Beijing explained relations with Norway, where the peace prize committee is primarily based, could possibly be below menace by the award. It summoned the Norwegian ambassador to listen to a formal protest.

The Dalai Lama, who won the peace prize in 1989, explained that China's government "must change".

He produced his feedback to Kyodo information agency, while passing via Tokyo's airport on his way to the US from India.

Meanwhile, individual rights groups say that Mr Liu's wife, Liu Xia, has been positioned beneath house arrest.

A US individual rights group, Freedom Now, explained she was permitted to visit her husband in jail on Sunday and has not been capable to leave her household given that.

The BBC Chinese service explained Mrs Liu had been capable to speak on her mobile telephone for only two sentences after returning to Beijing just before the line was blocked.

Armed guards are also reportedly on duty exterior her household.

There are also reports that far more political activists in Beijing have had their actions restricted, together with Zhou Duo, who was with Mr Liu through the Tiananmen Square protests.
