Acclaimed Taiwanese director Chang Tso-chi collected his second very best image award for When Appreciate Arrives, which led the race with 14 nominations and took one more two technical prizes.
"I choose to thank my workforce and my parents. I did not let them down," he explained on the ceremony.
Chang final won the coveted prize for the 2002 drama The most beneficial of Occasions.
The most beneficial director award went to Taiwan's Chung Mong-hong for the Fourth Portrait about marriages of usefulness and domestic violence.
It was a shock win for Chung, who saw off favourites Chang and Hong Kong's Teddy Chen for Bodyguards and Assassins.
"I am so joyful. That is like a shock. I considered director Chang Tso-chi deserved it more," he explained as he collected his award.
The film, which touched on other social problems which include little one abuse and prostitution, also picked up awards for outstanding Taiwanese film from the 12 months and very best supporting actress for China's Hao Lei.
In spite of currently being nominated for nine awards, Teddy Chen's film only picked up one for very best make-up and costume design.
